Abstract
Virtual reality is an emerging technology in the area of computer graphics. In the medical field, virtual surgical training has gained increasing popularity in recent years. This is because it has aided many medical trainee surgeons to achieve proper practice and training before performing actual surgery, thus minimizing cost and time. Soft tissue modeling is an important application in surgical training simulators. It is important to study the anatomical structure of tissues so as to know the details of skin layers and their behavior, especially so that trainee surgeons can get the look and feel of skin prior to operation. This chapter focuses on the soft tissue layers present in human skin. We attempt to accomplish this through soft tissue prototype development where the skin is modeled as a triangular mesh showing the multiple layers.
