Abstract
In the first decade of the twenty-first century, ‘soft power’ has emerged as a much-touted concept. The term, arguably used to gain lost ground for the USA, was first enshrined in the writings of Joseph Nye (1990, 2004, 2011), and began to be used against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, the dwindling military might of the USA and the American withdrawal from Vietnam.
