Abstract
Perhaps because the Cambridge Diet is revolutionary, it has been the subject of controversy on both sides of the Atlantic. It was extensively attacked by many US writers who have relied upon ex-cathedra pronouncements rather than experimental evidence. These range from the FDA46, the AMA47, the American Dietetic Association48, the American Society of Bariatric Physicians49 to eminent university nutritionists and doctors50, university extension services51, science writers, health authorities52 and journalists53.
