Abstract
The black bean aphid (Aphis fabae Scopoli) or blackfly is a common and widespread pest of field and broad beans, dwarf French and runner beans, sugar beet, mangel, fodder beet, spinach beet and spinach. It also occurs on fat-hen, poppy and dock. Very similar black aphids occur on other cultivated plants and weeds including rhubarb, dahlia, nasturtium, dock and thistle.
