Part of the book series: Inflammation: Mechanisms and Treatment ((FTIN,volume 4))

Abstract

The accumulation of macrophages onto subcutaneously implanted nitrocellulose discs has been investigated in rats and mice, following the footpad injection of complete Freund’s adjuvant and brewers yeast. The results show that only complete Freund’s adjuvant injection in rats inhibited macrophage accumulation although all treatments caused a local inflammation. This property may be linked to the ability of complete Freund’s adjuvant to induce a polyarthritis in rats.
