Abstract
There have been several previous studies (1,7,8,9) of the production of salicylic acid by the microbial fermentation of naphthalene because salicylic acid is a commerically important production considered to have a firm future. The metabolic pathway and the various physical conditions of this fermentation have been studied by several investigators (1,6). In order to overcome the toxicity of the desired product (salicylic acid) to the microbial cells themselves, and to increase salicylate yields, a number of methods have been developed (2,3,4,5).
