Abstract

The classical substructure concept for airfoils consists of spar and rib elements. For thin airfoils, sandwich constructions are most commonly used. As an alternative, a monolithic CFRP-substructure was developed, featuring corrugated spars in a V-shaped arrangement. The corrugated CFRP-substructure (CSS) combines the spar and rib function in one element and allows an adaption of its dimensions to the structural loads without manufacturing limitations. The producibility and structural performance of this concept was verified in component tests.
