Abstract
In this paper, we present a value analysis on the benefits of applying AI (Artificial Intelligence) techniques, especially object-oriented modeling and expert system, to CIM (Fig.1). As no defined methodology yet exists for establishing the value that can be place on applying a new technology (such as AI) to a particular domain (such as CIM), the purpose of this paper are:
-
(1)
to define the markets of CIM/AI products, thus taking a product view on the CIM/AI business and not the conceptual, technological and functional view as done in previews publication (Meyer 1986, 1987, 1988);
-
(2)
to point out the expectation and drawbacks of appraising internal CIM/AI projects;
-
(3)
to asses economic and strategic justification methods for CIM/AI projects; and
-
(4)
to apply a hybrid evaluation technique based on quantitative qualitative criteria to the CIM/AI software developed within EP 932.
