Abstract
The past several years have seen an increase in the interest for the potential presence of significant amounts of cold molecular gas in galactic disks. It has been hailed as the solution to the (Galactic) dark matter problem, a statement which merits a thorough discussion and investigation of the validity of the claims posed.
In order to present this talk, there needs to be clarity about what exactly it is that we are looking for, and what exactly it is that the different observing techniques reveal to us about the properties of the gas. As I hope to show you, it is not entirely straightforward to interpret the results from the different observations, and the basic assumptions that are made need to be understood and questioned.
