Abstract
Observation activities within the Seti program have started at the Medicina radiotelescope (near Bologna—Italy-) since March 1998. An ultra high frequency resolution Serendip IV spectrometer module, in a 4 million channels configuration, was used. Observations with the Serendip IV spectrometer connected in piggyback mode have been carried out so far at the 32-mt VLBI dish antenna in the microwaves astronomical bands. In order to increase the detection possibilities, a more flexible version of the data post processing procedure (SALVE II) and a quite new KLT (Karhunen Loeve Transform) for data detection have been introduced. The final tests of such a KLT have been carried out with an expandable fast Mercury Altivec multinode CPUs cluster. This is planned to operate in parallel to the already existing Serendip IV high-resolution spectrometer.
