Samenvatting

De neurologische regulatie van het slikken en de pathologie daarvan komt grotendeels overeen met die van het spreken (zie hoofdstuk B5), want het betreft dezelfde orofaryngeale structuren. Maar er zijn ook verschillen. Dit hoofdstuk is een korte beschrijving van de centrale en perifere neurologische structuren die noodzakelijk zijn voor efficiƫnt en veilig slikken. De uitgebreidheid van dit netwerk verklaart waarom bij zoveel verschillende neurologische aandoeningen tevens slikstoornissen voorkomen (Zald & Pardo, 1999) (zie bijvoorbeeld de beschrijvingen in hoofdstuk B6.1.2).
