Samenvatting

Pulmonale hypertensie wordt gedefinieerd als een gemiddelde bloeddruk in de longslagader > 25 mmHg in rust of > 30 mmHg tijdens inspanning. Er zijn op dit moment meer dan dertig aandoeningen bekend die kunnen leiden tot veranderingen in de structuur van het pulmonale vaatbed en tot pulmonale hypertensie. Deze aandoeningen worden verdeeld in vijf groepen. De meest voorkomende oorzaken van pulmonale hypertensie zijn linkerhartfalen en chronisch obstructief longlijden (COPD).
