Abstract

Groin hernias are defined as protrusion of a viscus or part of a viscus or any abdominal content through an opening in the groin region. They constitute the majority of all abdominal wall hernias. Treatment of groin hernias is surgical repair of the defect, unless the condition of the patient precludes any surgical intervention. The success of a procedure is therefore determined by the permanence of the repair; a corollary, recurrence, defines a repair’s failure.
