Zusammenfassung
Das Hypothalamus-Hypophysen-System verbindet das ZNS mit dem endokrinen System. Aufgrund dieser Funktion wird es auch als neuroendokrines System bezeichnet. Der Hypothalamus ist zentral in die Regulation einer Reihe physiologischer Prozesse wie Wachstum, Metabolismus, Stressreaktion, Reproduktion, Osmoregulation und zirkadiane Rhythmik involviert. Diese basalen Funktionen sind entscheidend an der Homöostase beteiligt, indem sie die physiologischen Vorgänge des Körpers mit den Umweltbedingungen in Einklang bringen. Um diese zentrale Funktion auszuüben, fungiert der Hypothalamus als integratives Zentrum, das eine Fülle von Steuerungssignalen aus fast allen Bereichen des sensorischen und autonomen Systems erhält. Die nur in Ansätzen verstandene Verarbeitungsleistung des Hypothalamus führt zu den hypothalamischen Steuerungssignalen in Form der Freisetzung von Neurotransmittern und Neurohormonen, die vor allem auf Teile des ZNS und die Hypophyse wirken. Im vorliegenden Kapitel werden die pharmakologisch relevanten Hypothalamus-/Hypophysen-Hormone und ihre Analoga sowie einige Rezeptorantagonisten dargestellt.
