Zusammenfassung

Ein 67-jähriger Patient hat seit 10 Jahren einen Typ-2-Diabetes. Jetzt werden im Rahmen der Vorsorge bei ihm eine periphere arterielle Verschlusskrankheit, eine nichtproliferative Retinopathie und eine distal symmetrisch sensorische Neuropathie festgestellt. Da er seit vielen Jahren mit Metformin-Monotherapie einen HbA1c von 8,5 % hatte, fragt er, ob das Auftreten dieser Komplikationen durch eine bessere Zuckereinstellung hätte verhindert werden können. Hat er Recht?
