Zusammenfassung
Alle Gesteine und Lockerablagerungen sind den Kräften der globalen Plattentektonik ausgesetzt und können durch sie unter Dehnung oder Kompression verstellt, zerschert und deformiert werden. Diese Bewegungen sind besonders stark an Plattengrenzen ausgeprägt. Jedoch treten auch innerhalb der Platten Spannungen auf, die durch das Kräftefeld der Plattenbewegungen kontrolliert werden. Daneben gibt es lokale Ursachen für Tektonik wie z. B. Salzbewegung (Halokinese), die ihre direkte Ursache in der Gravitation haben. Die Tektonik (griech.: die Baukunst betreffend) beschäftigt sich mit dem Bau der Erdkruste. Die Strukturgeologie studiert Deformationsstrukturen, die in einem Gebirge, einem Aufschluss oder in einem einzelnen Kristall auftreten. Nachdem wir im vorangegangenen Kapitel die plattentektonischen Großelemente vorgestellt haben, erläutern wir im Folgenden wesentliche tektonische und strukturgeologische Grundlagen.
