Der Forschungsansatz basiert auf einem sequenziellen Mixed-Methods-Design mit einer qualitativen Vorstudie und einer quantitativen Hauptuntersuchung. Die qualitative Untersuchung strukturiert das bislang weitgehend unerforschte Themengebiet über optimale Flughafenstandorte. Sie filtert wichtige Faktoren und bildet den Grundstein für die darauf aufbauenden quantitativen Analysen.
