Als Anwendung stochastischer Methoden auf die Informatik wird im 68. Kapitel diskutiert, wie Daten komprimiert werden können und wo die Grenzen solcher Methoden liegen. Das Kapitel führt ein in grundlegende Begriffe der Shannonschen Informationstheorie bis zum Quellencodierungstheorem. Zum Abschluss wird kurz der Begriff der Kolmogorow-Komplexität diskutiert.
