Abstract
The Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation (FES) is the oldest of all the German political foundations. Established in 1925 as a political legacy of Germany’s president Friedrich Ebert, it started its international work in the 1950s and 60s in cooperation with the German Ministry of Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Its aim was and still is to achieve international long-term project work. International trade union work is one of the central pillars of the FES’ international work. Today the FES maintains more than 100 offices in Europe, Africa, Asia, America and the Middle East to promote Germany’s foreign policy path. Its international work focuses, in particular, on the European integration process, Transatlantic relationships, and overcoming conflicts in the Balkans and Central Africa.
