Zusammenfassung

Die Netzwerkforschung untersucht in erster Linie Strukturen und Prozesse auf der Meso-Ebene des Sozialen. Netzwerke sind überpersönliche Strukturen oberhalb von einzelnen Handlungen oder Interaktionen auf der Mikro-Ebene, aber unterhalb von gesellschaftlichen Makro-Strukturen wie der Wirtschaft oder der Politik. Auch die empirisch orientierte Netzwerkforschung kommt aber nicht ohne theoretische Annahmen über Prozesse auf der Mikro-Ebene oder Strukturen auf der Makro-Ebene aus. So werden Mikro-Prozesse meist als rational motivierte individuelle Handlungen oder als zumindest teilweise selbstläufige Interaktionsketten beschrieben. Der vorliegende Essay nimmt dagegen die Makro-Ebene in den Blick. Mit welcher theoretischen Modellierung von Makro-Strukturen ist Netzwerkforschung kompatibel? Welche Probleme oder auch Verknüpfungschancen ergeben sich dabei? Und welche methodologischen Konsequenzen ergeben sich aus unterschiedlichen theoretischen Modellierungen von Makro-Strukturen für die Netzwerkforschung?
