Microgenetic Analysis and Creativity: Analyzing Psychological Change Processes

Abstract

Microgenetic analysis designates a type of idiographic and qualitative research that allows investigating developmental processes by conducting micro-analyses of social interactions among subjects in structured and natural activities and in specific settings circumscribed by chronological – thus, irreversible – time. The cultural psychology of creativity considers that creativity as a phenomenon originates from human interactions semiotically mediated by their socio-cultural contexts, which evolve in the course of ontogenesis by means of dialectical and dialogical processes. The merger of microgenesis and research in creativity has significantly contributed to research in this field, by enabling in-depth analyses of the genesis and development of creativity, including developmental changes and transformations experienced by interacting subjects in the contexts under study.
