Abstract
My aim is to investigate the most appropriate means of prefabrication to eco-standards that will enable my house design to be made into a reality. I have openly relied upon a variety of sources varying from journals, to specialist professionals, and organisations connected with this field of work. I summarise the choices of construction and building services as well as focusing upon advised solutions for my own house design as seen in Sect. 5.4. In that section, I recommend metal roller shutters over all windows and doors as a security measure. It amazes me that, whilst they have always been popular in Germany, they have never caught on in the UK.
The strength of the prefabricated house lies in its popularity, its cheapness and the industrial base from which it operates. These are precisely the areas in which modern architecture is weakest. Modern architecture is unpopular, expensive and divorced from industrial production.
The government thinks that house builders should invest in factory production and begin making reliable, high quality houses that are cheap to run as well as cheap to build. Colin Davies (The Prefabricated Home, Colin Davies. London, Reaktion Books, 2005)
