Abstract
Infection with the Ebola virus is an important condition to recognize as it is both highly contagious and has a significant associated morbidity and mortality rate. This chapter highlights the classic and atypical features of Ebola virus, details the symptom course, and emphasizes key diagnostic clues to the diagnosis of Ebola infection. Management of an acute infection is reviewed along with appropriate quarantine and the use of personal protective equipment in the care of infectious patients. Complications and risk of exposure and transmission are also discussed.
