Abstract
Nursing leadership is a key concern for the future development of AYA cancer care. In this chapter, the main theories of leadership are considered alongside those that describe less effective approaches, such as avoidant leadership. The different stages of development that exist in AYA cancer care mean that future nurse leaders will have to be resilient and self-aware to cope with the challenges that will arise in each setting. By presenting insights from recent research with executive nurse directors in the UK, some ways forward for leaders in AYA cancer services are provided.
