Abstract

Robotic simple prostatectomy (RSP) is an effective treatment option for patients requiring surgical treatment for large gland benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It was first described in 2008, but its role in the surgical treatment of BPH has increased since 2012. The use of robotics provides magnified 3-D vision, tremor filtration, wristed instruments, and enhanced ergonomics. RSP is associated with reduced blood loss and fewer blood transfusions, lower reoperation rates, and a shorter hospital stay in comparison to open simple prostatectomy. In this chapter, we present the main steps of our technique of transperitoneal RSP.
