Abstract
Atopic eczema is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory skin condition characterized by highly pruritic, xerotic, erythematous papulovesicular rashes that typically appear on the flexor surfaces of the elbows and knees, as well as the face and hands. Atopic eczema is a very common childhood condition, and it is not uncommon in adults. Atopic eczema is associated with other atopic diseases such as asthma and allergic rhinitis. There is no cure for atopic eczema; however, topical corticosteroids can treat acute flare-ups, and frequent use of emollients and moisturizers, as well as avoidance of skin irritance, can help to prevent recurrence.
