Abstract

This paper presents a triangular patch monopole antenna having triangular slots defective ground structure (DGS) for Ultra-wide band (UWB) applications. The defected ground design has triangular slots at the corners of the ground for miniaturization of the antenna by increasing the current path length. Parametric study of Defective ground structure has been done to improve the return loss characteristics and gain. Feed is also modified to tapered one. FR-4 epoxy substrate having permittivity of 4.4 and loss tangent of 0.02, with the dimensions of \( 24 \times 20\;{\text{mm}}^{2} \) and height of 1.6 mm, is used to design the proposed antenna. The proposed antenna resonates over the full UWB frequency range from 3.08 GHz to 12.7 GHz, with gains in the range 0.42 dB to 4.626 dB all over the band. High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS 13.0) software has been used for designing and simulation.
