Abstract
This introductory chapter begins by providing the rationale for the book, which places the Conservative Right—resurgent in recent years as a result of Brexit—into historical context by examining its evolution since 1945. The chapter goes on to define the Conservative Right in terms of its core ideas and then exploring points of tension between its different strands. This sets the scene for the remainder of the book, which explores the Conservative Right in a thematic way.
