Abstract

Isolated lateral arthritis of the knee is a pattern of degeneration that will present to every surgeon that treats patients with knee pain. Although this is a less common condition than medial or tricompartmental disease, the diagnosis and treatment of lateral arthritis is an important component of treating the arthritic knee. With proper patient selection, the use of modern techniques and implants, lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is a safe and viable option and shows equivalent outcomes to medial UKA.
