Abstract
This chapter reviews the role of social media developed in the context of community policing (CP) during crisis events. As CP is usually meant to influence the day-to-day service of police officers and to build closer relationships with communities, the need to use social media is evident and crucial for the success of CP. It is not limited to daily routines, however; it can also be used during emergencies. An analysis of a shooting incident that happened close to a shopping mall in Munich, Germany, in 2016 reveals how community policing, and police presence on social media, may facilitate police work during crises.
