Abstract
This chapter focuses on routine health care and well visits, early detection, and prevention of diseases in children, for example, the prevention of poisoning, drowning, and sunburn. Child well visits include taking a focused history, listening seriously to any parental concern, performing a thorough physical examination, and following all health screening recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Bright Futures Guidelines. Well visits can detect health issues such as failure to thrive, short stature, hypertension, depression, developmental delay, autism, intellectual disability, hearing loss, and refraction disorders.
