Abstract

We have seen that the creation of ball lightning objects is closely related to normal lightning and especially to cloud-to-ground lightning. In order to understand the conditions that are created by cloud-to-ground lightning, we must take a closer look at electrical discharges in air: the corona, the streamers, and the leaders. St. Elmos fire, mentioned above, is just such a form of corona discharge.
