Abstract

The paper deals with the transformation of socio-cultural values in the ethno-national aspect, their inconsistency and crisis, manifested at different levels of social life. The attention is paid to the fact that among the different approaches to social and cultural values, pessimistic views are of paramount importance, in which the crisis of spirituality occupies a central place, providing an opportunity for positive changes both on the individual and at the level of society as a whole. From the point of view of ethnic-national specifics, modern society has many facets, has different characteristics and interpretations. With its conflictogenic nature, ethno-national relations threaten the preservation of cultural traditions and national identity, which sometimes leads to a rapid growth of national identity and nationalism. From the point of view of moderate optimism (J. liotar, E. Lacklau, P. Kozlovsky, etc.), the main advantage of modern society is the liberation of man, contributing to the acquisition of ethnic self-sufficiency and “humanity”. A different position to the transformation of social and cultural values (Z. Bauman, J. Baudrillard, P. Bourdieu, J. Habermas, etc.) is a manifestation of the absence of any solid grounds for a person’s world. On this basis, there are social contradictions, continuing national and religious differences (sometimes quite sharp), which are the soil of numerous ethnic conflicts. The authors note that in the modern world people have lost control over most social processes, due to the fact that society itself demonstrates mutually exclusive, contradictory options for development. Social institutions, the structures whose role has traditionally been seen in overcoming various kinds of problems, are turning into institutions that generate them. As a result, this leads to increased uncertainty about the future and the abandonment of long-term goals and prospects for the sake of today. Based on the fact that a person is a creature that always needs to find ontological stability, finding logic and meaning in all that is happening, it is emphasized that the person is constantly looking for support, including ideologies such as totalitarian, nationalist and chauvinistic, which will allow him to find a state of individual, national and social integrity.
