Abstract

The article addresses some of the key issues related to the development of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the Russian Far East at the present stage. The purpose of this work is to identify the trends of economic cooperation and the most problematic areas of interaction and to offer mutually beneficial ways of expanding contacts between countries.

The study’s methodological basis is grounded in objectivity. To enable a comprehensive examination of the issue in question, the authors employ a set of specific methods, including modeling, analysis and synthesis, statistical methods. The authors believe that in the context of the transition of the PRC to the “new phase of foreign economic openness”, when China seeks to take the place of the flagship of economic globalization, Russian Far East should develop new directions of economic cooperation: implementation of youth start-ups, participation of Russian Far Easterners in the World skills movement, creation of comfortable conditions for work along with strengthening cooperation in the raw material sector, in food industry and joint development of agricultural areas.

Such a policy will help to shift the emphasis in Russian-Chinese trade and economic relations from the raw material sector to the highly intellectual, which will have a positive impact on improving the competitiveness of the Russian region in international markets, and will enable Russia to more actively integrate into international economic regional processes. At the same time, this will contribute to the preservation of the population in the Russian Far East and to the national security of the country.
