Abstract

In the next chapter, we are going to see that Gaia takes its measurements from the L2 point on the Earth-Sun system, a quiet location about 1.5 million km away from the Earth. Here, the satellite collects the precious data that, first of all, have to be sent to the Earth, where the so-called “ground segment” of the mission operates.
