Abstract

The urgency of the contribution is due to the fact that the theory of institutional change has not been fully reflected in the Russian economic literature, while it forms the main prerequisites for economic growth and development, and provides the necessary conditions for the digital economy in Russia. The authors represent their point of view concerning institutional change contributing to economy digitalization in Russia. The leading methods of research are the methods of mathematical statistics, which allow a comprehensive quantitative evaluation of institutional change for the period 2010–2017 and evaluate the Future ready of Russian society for digitalization. The authors’ calculations showed that the reform of the institutional environment is heterogeneous, the density of the institutional environment is low in the digital sector, there is a discrepancy between change in formal and informal institutions, and this indicates the complexity of the transition to the digital economy and requires targeted incremental institutional change. The materials of the contribution are of practical value for the development of management decisions to improve the institutional system of Russian economy.
