Abstract
Delay-Tolerant or Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) is a field of computer networking that deals with networks that may encounter discontinuous connectivity. It addresses technical issues, including intermittent routing failure, high error rate, and latency, with the aim to provide communication reliability. DTN is a network structure paradigm that is expected to be compatible with other structures that concern different networking aspects. One important DTN architecture developed in the literature is Message Ferrying based architecture that consists in using special nodes as ferries to deliver messages through the network regions. Yet, performance degradation may occur in consequence due to the high amount on energy consumed by the mobile message ferries. Thus, finding an efficient number of ferry nodes involved in the network is of interest.
