Abstract

Metacarpal fractures are common injuries and most are amenable to non-operative treatment. There are however specific fracture patterns and deformity which would warrant surgical intervention. Clinical assessment of rotation deformity is critical. Plain radiographs should suffice to delineate most fracture patterns, but the basal injuries may benefit from CT scanning. Timely and appropriate treatment should allow most athletes to return to play at the pre-injury level.
