Abstract

Many contemporary Web applications require the use of a relational database. Such a database is used to store the application’s data and produce the application’s information. For a database to be effective, we must carefully plan its details. This is usually done by constructing one or more data models. The importance of good database design cannot be understated. A database that is well designed will make the development of an application much easier and more efficient. What’s more is the fact that good database design leads to good data, which leads to good information, which leads to good decision making, which leads to organizational stability (in a not-for-profit context) or competitive advantage (in a for-profit context).
