Hormonal and Developmental Regulation of Xenopus Egg Protein Genes

Abstract

The developing oocyte alone is not capable of generating all the different proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, metabolites, etc. that make up the mature egg. Oogenesis is therefore a most appropriate example in development of a precisely coordinated division of labor between different tissues of an organism. The reader is referred to some general reviews dealing with questions of oogenesis and egg development (Browder, 1985; Metz and Monroy, 1985; Wallace, 1985).
