Abstract
Since the collapse of the Soviet empire, Russia has been confronted with a new phenomenon: immigration. Hundreds of thousands of people from Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, and many other countries have come to settle on its soil, both legally and illegally, and for a variety of reasons. Among these developing migration flows, the Chinese stand out as a particular case. The origins, objectives and attitudes of the migrants and the special fears that they arouse in the Russian population make Chinese migration to Russia a special case that deserves close inspection.
