Abstract

Perhaps the era of greatest expansion in laboratory building which started in the 1950s is now receding. Laboratories are now less likely to be regarded as symbols of prestige and growth, and cost consciousness makes the careful optimisation of use of existing laboratory buildings a first consideration.
