About this book series

The process of democratic development, economic growth and in many cases, inclusion in Western institutions for former Soviet and Communist countries turned out to be complex. The region that encompassed the former Communist world demands study, explanation, and analysis, as both centripetal and centrifugal forces are at work in each state and across the region. The Studies on Central and Eastern Europe series brings together leading scholars who consider this meeting of East and West. The International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) is an umbrella organization committed to facilitating research and establishing co-operative links among scholars, including those from the subject region.
