About the author

Sujay Kumar Dutta is a former Professor and Head of the Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgy) from Calcutta University, India in 1975 and Master of Engineering (Industrial Metallurgy) from MS University of Baroda, India in 1980. He was awarded PhD degree in 1992 by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. He has one-year practical industrial experience. He joined MS University of Baroda as a Lecturer in 1981 and subsequently promoted to Professor. He became Head (Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering) and Director (ME, Welding Course) from 2012 to 2016. His major areas of research interests include iron ore-coal composite pellets, micro-alloy steel development, DRI melting, and utilization of iron and steel plants’ waste materials. Prof. Dutta has received several awards, including Essar Gold Medal (2006), Fellowship (2014) and Distinguished Educator Award (2015), all from The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Kolkata, in recognition of his distinguished service to the field of Metallurgical Education and to the Indian Institute of Metals. He was also awarded SAIL Award 2019 by The Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata. The American Biographical Institute Board of International Research had nominated him for Man of the Year 2012, for distinctive accomplishments in the Metallurgical field.

Dr. Dutta has authored of six books {including: Basic Concepts of Iron and Steel Making (Springer Nature, Singapore, 2020), Extraction of Nuclear and Non-ferrous Metals (Springer Nature, Singapore, 2018), Metallurgical Thermodynamics, Kinetics & Numerical (S Chand, New Delhi, 2012) Extractive Metallurgy: Processes and Applications (PHI, Delhi, 2018)}; and two chapters of Encyclopedia of Iron, Steel, and Their Alloys, (CRC Press, New York, 2016). He has published more than 130 research papers in national/international journals and conference proceedings. He served as member of editorial board and reviewer for several national/international journals.
