About this book
This book focuses on irrigation sources together with water management for agricultural development in Uttar Pradesh state of India. Being the most populous state of the country, it bears a burden of feeding about 199 million people of which major section relies on agriculture for their subsistence. This study makes comparison in the growth trends in the irrigated area, crop land use patterns and crop productivity at the district level in different periods of time. The book emphasizes on irrigation water management to optimize crop yields in order to increase Water Productivity of crops in low productivity regions of the state applying suitable technology.

About the author
Dr. (Mrs.) Suman Lata is presently working as Assistant Professor (Geography) in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur (India). She completed her Doctoral degree in Geography from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. She has published about a dozen articles in refereed journals mostly on the aspects of irrigation, water management and crop land use patterns, and also contributed papers in the fields of climate change, migration, female’s education and occupational development. She has participated and presented papers in many national and international conferences and seminars. In 2017, she was awarded Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Humanities and Social Sciences by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. She also worked as Research Associate in Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi. During the session 2015-16, she taught to undergraduate students of geography in Women’s College, A.M.U., Aligarh as Assistant Professor. She bears a goodknowledge of the application of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System.
