This book highlights state-of-the-art research and practices for adaptation to climate change in food production systems (agriculture in particular) as observed in Japan and neighboring Asian countries. The main topics covered include the current scientific understanding of observed and projected climate change impacts on crop production and quality, modeling of autonomous and planned adaptation, and development of early warning and/or support systems for climate-related decision-making. Drawing on concrete real-world examples, the book provides readers with an essential overview of adaptation, from research to system development to practices, taking agriculture in Asia as the example. About the editors

Toshichika Iizumi Agro-meteorologist and Senior Scientist at the Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences, NARO. Former Associate Editor of Journal of Agricultural Meteorology and Editor of Climate Research. His work mainly focuses on global climate-crop analysis, the goal of which is to contribute significantly to the knowledge base that secures global food security under pressure. 

Ryuichi Hirata Senior Researcher at the Center for Global Environmental Research, National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan. Handling editor of Ecological Research. He is currently studying the carbon balance in terrestrial ecosystems using observation, remote sensing and modeling.

Ryo Matsuda Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, University of Tokyo. Associate Editor of Journal of Agricultural Meteorology and Editor of Environmental Control in Biology. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo and is chiefly investigating controlled environment agriculture.
