Abstract

A prototype chemistry module for [11C] acetate production using the Grignard reaction was developed and evaluated. Diluted methylmagnesium chloride in 3.0 M of tetrahydrofuran (THF) was used as the precursor and commercially available ion-exchange purification cartridges were used to purify the synthesized [11C] acetate synthesized. [11C] acetate was produced in 28 ± 8% yield (n = 10) at the end of bombardment (decay corrected), and the total time for the preparation was approximately 18 min. A graphic user interface was designed with LABVIEW software, and solenoid valves were used. The synthesis protocol was programmed with LABVIEW software, which was designed to be compatible with Microsoft Excel® for the user’s convenience.
