Restricted solid-on-solid growth model with a defect site in a two-dimensional substrate

Abstract

A restricted solid-on-solid growth model with a defect in the middle of a two-dimensional substrate is studied. A particle is deposited with a probability P at the defect site and with P = 1 at the other sites under a restriction on the local height difference. When P is small, the strength of the defect is strong enough to make a surface facet. For P > P c , the defect site distorts the surface weakly without producing a facet surface. At P = P c , the height difference correlation function C(r) shows a power-law behavior C(r) ∼ r δ with δ ≈ 1/2. Other critical exponents near the facet transition are also discussed.
