Abstract
A feasibility test of a direct-lit backlight unit (BLU) for a 32-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) incorporating a newly designed pyramid sheet is carried out. The single pyramid sheet in this BLU replaces two diffuser sheets (DSs). Although the viewing-angle-dependent luminance distribution gets worst, the luminous intensity of the direct-lit BLU can be improved by using the proposed single pyramid sheet. The luminance in the front direction is increased by about 28%.
