Abstract
Subjects were instructed to use either different mnemonics (compound images or verbal combinations) on List 1 and List 2 in an A-B, A-Br transfer paradigm, or to use the same type of nmemonic strategy for both tasks. Compared to A-B, C-B control subjects who were similarly instructed, there was no evidence that switching the type of elaborative encoding led to reduced interference.
